Indonesia Tourism Performance 2008
Most of Indonesia’s major incoming markets recorded increased in 2006 and 2007. Indonesia was able to attract more international visitors from Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Japan and ROC in 2007. Visa-on-arrival facilities and additional flight frequencies for China and India have provided a positive effect on international visitors from the respective countries
From Europe, the UK has been the most dynamic market most likely due to its dynamic economy and a strong currency. In 2007, The Russian, one of Indonesia’s top major market in Europe, increased 55.14% compared to year 2006. From the Pacific area, the international visitors from Australia increased 38.53% in 2007 compared to the international visitors of 2006.

In the year 2008, visitor arrivals to Indonesia accounting for 6,433,509 visitor arrival representing the growth of 16.85% compared to the previous year (2007). One of the programs to attract foreign visitor to Indonesia that the government of Indonesia has designated the year 2008 as Visit Indonesia Year 2008.
DISTRIBUTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL VISITORS
In 2007, Bali which is known as the most favourite destination in Indonesia for foreign visitors as its market share reached 31.64% of total arrivals to the country.

Among the fastest growing destination, port of entry Juanda - East Java Destination has received an increase of 68.31% of international visitors in 2007 compared to the year 2006. The other port of entry is Adi Sumarmo – Central Java Destination which increased 34.65% of international visitors in 2007, but port of entry Selaparang - West Nusa Tenggara Destination declined 46.37%.
HOTELS
In 2006, Indonesia offers totally 11,461 establishments with a capacity of 285,530 rooms which consist of 1,057 classified hotels (one to five stars hotel) and 10,404 non-classified hotels (designated with “jasmine” hotel). Other types of accommodations represented 1,061 establishments. Bali offers the largest number of classified hotels with the number of 147 units followed by West Java and Jakarta with the number of 127 properties one each other.
